Strengthening the Mind-Body Connection

Psychotherapy For the
whole self

UNTANGLING

We work together to unravel your core self so you can feel wholly connected to your intuition, body and life. My job is to listen and to help you hear the messages your body is delivering. By working your way out of old patterns, anxiety and depression will lessen and you will feel more empowered.

CREATING CLARITY

Somatic (body-based) practices encourage our body to “speak” when our minds block the way. By slowing down and paying attention, it becomes easier to hear what’s been missing and to make new choices.

ENRICHING LIFE

I help my clients reconnect to their spontaneous responses to life, so that they can live with more freedom, ease, and joy!

Why Somatic Psychotherapy?

Our brains process billions of bits of data every second, but we are only aware of a tiny fraction of that! So while thinking and talking are super important, our thoughts and words only tell part of the story. Our emotions, which are fundamentally bodily processes, arise from these many of bits of data being processed at once. By slowing down and paying attention to our body, we can discover much more information about how and why we are responding to difficult parts of life. Problems which were confusing become more clear. Changes that once seemed impossible become practicable and ultimately achievable.

How I WORK

My process is module-based. We will work on a specific skill or investigation over the course of eight sessions. At the end of a module, we will close out, develop take-aways, identify changes, and assess habits and practices that have been helpful. If you wish to continue our work, we will begin a new module, with a new focus and redefined goals. I find that this approach clarifies the therapeutic process and helps clients get the most out of their time, bringing real and lasting change

During a session

We will spend our time on three things:

Talking about the important aspects of your life.

1.

Actively listening to what your body has to say.

2.

Practicing techniques for increasing relaxation and self-awareness.

3.

Each session will end by identifying a skill to practice between sessions. This way, we maintain a thread from one session to the next, and work toward integrating insights into your daily life.

Our journey together will travel from warmth, through work, to freedom.

About Gaelyn

Born, raised, and now practicing right here in Atlanta, our vibrant "City in the Forest," I feel deeply connected to the unique blend of culture and nature our community offers. After years of finding personal fulfillment through dance and the performing arts, I began a journey in mental health, which led me to Boulder, CO in 2013 to obtain a Masters of Counseling from Naropa University. I was able to immerse myself in the transformative worlds of both traditional therapy and somatic psychotherapy, learning to integrate the mind, body, and spirit in the healing process. Appreciating the profound impact of early life experiences, I then added a certification in Synergetic Play Therapy in 2021. This innovative approach leverages the natural language of play to help young individuals navigate through and make sense of their complex worlds. I now live in the Cabbagetown neighborhood with my husband and our delightful baby girl. I love baking, biking, karaoke, and live performances of all kinds.
